On the Importance of Raising Collocational Awareness in Translation Practices

چکیده
Abstract The knowledge of medium-strength and field-specific collocations is a prerequisite for sounding native-like as such an essential skill to have future translators. While students are usually familiar with the use idioms fixed expressions, they may struggle recognizing also producing collocations, especially ones do not encounter enough frequency. They tend overuse certain common word combinations often create constructions through false analogy that result in unnatural language. In order acquire need notice them first – noticing, either incidental or guided, considered be step this process. After presenting some factors hinder accidental noticing which motivates necessity teacher’s guidance, paper gives examples exercises can help draw students’ attention collocations. An important objective raise collocational awareness motivate resources allow (collocation dictionaries, electronic databases, corpora). A task-based approach understood by Ellis (2003) combined theoretical considerations lexical (Lewis 1993) suitable purpose; presented based on general semi-specialized texts target studying translation working Hungarian–English language combination.
